Hatred

Hatred

A Poem by Drako

Hatred
It’s so strong a feeling
It burns from deep down inside
It festers, starting at a low boil
It grows until its all consuming
Thoughts revolve around it
You relive the memory
In your waking hours it haunts the back of your mind
In sleep, it comes to the front
You see it all, you feel it
You feel the pain
Where does it come from?
You were hurt
The pain wasn’t merely physical
The emotional scars never fade
Even when you think you’ve moved past it
You see that person, and it all comes back
You hate them, you despise them
They ruined you
They assaulted you
They broke your heart
They left you to wallow
So you hate them
You hate them so much that deep down you begin to hate yourself
On the surface you’ve moved on
But that hatred still resides within you
You become this wild emotion
This uncontrollable demon
Until at some point you unleash the rage
This rage that stems from this festering hatred
You unleash the hate on someone, deserving or not
In the end, you’re left hollow
You’re still a shattered soul
Destroyed by your hatred of this one person
And you wallow on
