To Italia

To Italia

A Poem by LogosMythos

I traveled to Italy, once,

Only years ago,

And I was unmoved.

I savored Tuscan red wine

No more than that of California grapes;

I ate hearty of fresh pastas and breads

No greater than that of American cuisine;

I revered in the formidable shadow of Pisa’s tower,

I walked the breath-taking Luccan walls in the flourishing summer

I gazed upon the murals and frescos of the Florentine chapels,

And, alas, my heart was still.

I traveled to Italy, once,

And now, only years later,

I wish to return again.

Love this. Strange is it not how we don't always appreciate
some places or things when we first experience them.
Only in retrospect do we see what we should have seen years before.
