Love's Shelf Life

Love's Shelf Life

A Poem by Bipolarbear.979

Tonight I'm stuck in my head
Too many memories
Why so much pain?
And why do all these stories
End in the same place?
Broken-hearted
Loyalty feels like a myth
Another lie they tell you
In stories of a bygone age
What is true love anyway?
A fictional pretense
Designed to sell cards
Forever is something rarely meant
Yet often heard
Another casualty resulting
From the degradation of society
Too many thoughts tonight
I'm trapped in an endless
Menagerie of torture
This carousel of pictures
Of when they told me I was happy
They lied
Is there a point to trying again?
What's that definition of insanity?
Doing the same thing on repeat
But expecting something different
There's a distinct lack of variation
To all this history
I think we all got scammed
There are no forever homes available
No, we're stuck at the pound
Buyer beware!
It's a short half-life here
