Elan Vital

A Poem by Hannah Davenport
"

Art isn't easy.

"

Do those sweet brown eyelashes
belong to a Kolinsky sable brush?
I want them fanning across my cheek,
adding color and depth in fragile
artistic flutters as our bodies bleed.

My fingers feel thick and stiff.
They're tubes of paint, dripping
importance across the ridges of your ribs,
illustrations of sorrow.
