Best Now That I Be on My Way

Best Now That I Be on My Way

A Poem by bigfootprint
"

But you no longer reach out for me. Our brighter times have faded to gray.

"
I gave you all the warmth that I could,
Considering this unsettled heart.
If I could stay here with you I would,
But now I know that we soon must part.
Goodbyes will be so hard to say.
You took me in and helped me find my way,
But  you no longer reach out for me.
Our brighter times have faded to gray.

Each day grows sadder with your sighs.
It's best now that I be on my way.
I pine for someone dead long ago,
And no one else can take away that pain.
She was like a bird that I couldn't tame,
Often loving, often too dark to know.
She once tried to give her son to me
I thought she just wanted to run free.

I didn't know until the boy was grown
The fruit of the bitter seed I'd sewn.
Now a man, he wants no ties to me.
I will forever feel so alone.
Goodbyes will be so hard to say.
You took me in and helped me find my way,
But you no longer reach out for me.
Our brighter times have faded to gray.

It's best now that I be on my way.

I like to write new lines or even new lyrics to existing tunes. It can be challenging to coax the new lines to match the mood, timing, and flow of imagery.

This is a very sad story you are relating here; An unsettling feeling in your soul; a wanderer; a need to be loved; then the ending is tragic for me, knowing that the girl who ran free also gave you a son, who wants no part of you. Well done!!!
