Can You Believe ItA Poem by bigfootprintCan other-worldly genii be real -- or only imagined?Shining with startling promise of new energies, Can other-world genii be real, or only imagined? Perspectives weird, boundless and dazzling stalk Man's circuitous traipse toward waiting sod. Legends and tracings as old as stone titillate With mystery lights, insights, almond-eyed interlopers, Unexplained aerial displays and proclivities. Fringe media cite breakthrough patents and dead geniuses. Only genetic superimposition can explain man's evolution. Still we are spared the truth of supposition, And worthy dissension grows over possible deception. Some point at power brokers rated above-top-secret Who silence the proofs even to the top world leaders Fearful of ritual disembowelment and swift retribution. Most of us stand with blank stares somewhere between synergy And hope that our ever-reborn spiritual spark Will somehow find that final mark of good works, Leaving behind all fiendish hate and greed so pervasive In militaristic insistence on whose is the true god. When we meekly trust our fate to other's discretion, We see ourselves daily drowning in contempt and oppression. That German Nazi demon ferried the world to the brink When good people refused to see, forsaking obligation. The rapacious wolves close in at first vacuum Of apathy, when commoners let greed, egos and power lust Blind them to that inevitable perversion of the good. As did muted Germans stand watching in tranced denial Naked lambs flow to slaughter, so now do we trust Those clandestine, contemptible, unchecked camps who discredit The truth of our scientific guns, already drawn and cocked -- Fascinating exigencies, free fuel and exotic human potentials. Will humanity's ascendancy be marred; will we draw the death card? Our demons feed on our blind fears and fan the flames Of our desperation, playing us all for the fools we are -- Driving our fouling gas-powered cars only to dream of the stars.
