The Mark of Greatness

The Mark of Greatness

A Poem by bigfootprint
"

No finer branches will ever drape a prouder family tree.

"
Just as dazzling preludes enrich the finest operettas,
Two beautiful teens steel their minds with humility,
Scanning the horizon for a hint of their Golden Fleece
As they test the waters in the heady world of adulthood.

They have risen above, impressing their grandad proud.
Like shining halos and crowns to light the trails ahead,
I see the mark of greatness as will others one day soon.
No finer branches will ever drape a prouder family tree.

Charisma unsurpassed, they dive into the gulf of unknowns.
Draped in hues of grace, charm, faith, and accomplishment,
They have learned the worth of scholastics and athletics.
With proven pluck, they now test work-a-day for their keep.

One day they will know that hard work, loyalty, panache,
And goals will pace their race toward family and career.
And show them the way toward a great and prosperous life.
If they portray this tribute, I shall smile back from afar.

Author's Note

bigfootprint
Their mother recently posted a photo of her teens dressed to the nines and waiting to attend a school year-end function. I was so taken with the photo that I could not contain the urge to express my grandfatherly pride at the proud pose. Photo and poem are displayed on my Facebook Home Page.

Dear Doug, I can tell you are bursting with pride. Your teenage granddaughters on the cusp of adulthood and all that means. It sounds to me that they have been nurtured well in their growing years. Not surprised you feel proud of them. This is a delightful read and is penned beautifully. Well done.

That's a fact, politics should never shape our beliefs. Our beliefs should wheel those appointed.
