Christmas Blessings

Let's lay our daily cares aside,

And in the season's joys abide.

Let our prayers of thanks resound --

One echo for each friend we found,

One for each heart where love abound

One for lovely scent, sight, and sound.

Let our hearts with charity swell

And cheery smiles all gloom dispel.

Let's forgive others' harsh intent

Before this Christmastime is spent.

Be grateful for heaven's blessings,

And pray for all men's sufferings.

The Christmas season is a good time for reflecting on the year's events -- and atoning for missteps.

Hello Doug. How lovely are your Christmas Blessings. The season of goodwill and thanks. Your poem is nicely rhymed in couplets, flows well and contains a thoughtful message. I have to admit, I haven't yet got Christmas on my mind. Too much other activity going on at the moment. If you responded on the email pics of the painting, I missed it. Yes it is too early for dwelling on Christmas, but the days are flitting past for me. I have one more portrait to do, but it will be in chalks because if have developed a bit of palsy in the hands that prevents exacting work. Guess I waited too long. Have been in the horse latitudes for two years now, but finally getting back into harness. So, soon maybe. Thanks for caring. I feel your ethereal warmth -- soul glow -- all they way to Louisiana. A dream scenario, for sure. But then, I am glad nations do not rely on an institution like marriage to meld hearts and souls. There is too much a pitfall of us-against-them mentality to reign in envy and greed. It is too soon for the heaven on earth we have been promised.
