It's time

It's time

A Poem by Brook Hughes

I lie here...

In this hospital bed, saying to myself....

What am I doing here?

Where am I?

You're done for

My mother comes to my bedside

Tears rolling down her face

She slowly wipes the hair from my face

"Oh honey." "I don't want to lose you."

I don't wan't to lose you either.

Why can't she hear me?

She slowly gets up and leaves

I'm still here, I'm right here.

Come back

Please come back

The next day she walks in

She says...

" I am so so sorry sweetie."

" You.... have Lukemia"

" I don't think you know what this is."

"But you're not going to make."

" Instead of watching you suffer....."

I'm listening mommy

I can hear you

" I've made up my mind, I'm putting you out of your misery"

" I'm so sorry!"

" Know that mommy loves you with all her heart."

I love you too!

But, what do you mean...

She reached over at my side

Then everything, went black.
