I know who she was...

I know who she was...

I know who she was…

With smoldering eyes burning with the flames of lost identity,

I saw a long lost friend tonight who once was the other name for dignity.

Her bruised skin and multicolored hair hallucinates her to be someone else,

It was the first time in my life when I saw her without that old masquerade.

Her own deeds left no place for her to hide and no place to cry,

So she started living near the main street under shelter as the blue sky.

Obsessed with shame and saturated with guilt and culpability,

She refused to return back to her home and to her own family.

She is still lost from this world but inside waiting for a metamorphose,

As I’m very certain that one day she will become what once she was…

Author's Note

Bhavya Kaushik
Yesterday, I was just going somewhere with a friend of mine and I saw one girl at the corner of the street and I felt as if like I know her and then when I went close to her, I found that she was actually my old school friend. The irony is that she recognized me very well and everything about mebut then I was totally shocked to see her in that situation, she then told me that she left her home last year and from then she was living on streets, so I insisted her to return to her home but then she refused to do soSo after a long conversation I took her back to her home and her mom was so happy to see her again, she was like constantly cryingthen later on her mom told me that she was addicted towards drugs and they admitted to a rehab but then after a month she escaped from the rehab and was lost, they tried their level best to find her again but then she wasnt found and..thats all

This entire incidence really changed my outlook towards this life a lot..I cant just explain it in words..
Often we write about ourselves, our friends or family but this poem of mine definitely goes to her..

This type of poem strikes close to our hearts, and there are those
with these types of problems I believe feel so worthless, and not good
enough that they leave their families, friends.

I feel meeting up with her was your fate. Things happen for a reason.
I found it very touching that you took the time to talk to her, and help
her. You took her home, but she left again, and I hope you understand
that that was probably all you could have done for her because she has
to see things for herself and wants to get out on her own.

Thank you so much for sharing this...AD

Very touching. I found what you have written in your BIO to be extremely stirring.... certain words were so captivating...with all those photographs...i couldn't bring myself to read them all.
May be i'll gather some courage to read them at a later time.

This was such a good poem. Although you say you cannot explain it in words, you have done such a beautiful job in this poem. You really get your feeling and thoughts out perfectly when it comes to poetry. Although I cannot relate and I do not know who she is, my heart goes to her adn to you. :)
Forever,
Emilee...

That was amazing. I always love how some people are so aware of others and the world around them, and this poem certainly gave incite to that.
It was very commendable to help your friend even if she wasn't ready to be helped...that shows great charater and an empathy for others in need. Peace.

The imagery is vivid and potent. You expertly capture the image of a lost girl.

The language use is descriptive and elegant.

Good work. Keep it up.

I loved this write .. Simply heart felt

I'm sure like her, there are others in the same situation
All they need is someone to guide them to the right path, like you did for her
And you did a great job Bhav

Bhavya, you wrote this story with so much emotion and love. It reveals your sensitive and sweet soul to all of us, the people who are enjoying reading your skillful writing. It made me feel sad for your friend because I am sure that she feels lost and afraid ... but you have done a beautiful thing by reuniting her with her family. She will probably realize again one day that she has a family who love her and would take her back with open arms whatever mistake she has made in the past ... Thank you Bhavya for such a wonderful and generous writing.
Salam

This poem moistened my eyes. My heart wept for the parents and for her...But one very good thing happened that you spotted her and saved her from more self-destruction
drugs and teens ! as always a controversial issue where we blame either the teen or the parents....
honestly, i do believe that parents have a great role to play here....we, become so engrossed in our daily lives that we hardly know our kids...and they gradually go away from us
