Before and After

Before and After

A Poem by Nick Warwick

Were I somehow conscious prior to my conception
And should I then remain when my atoms have dispersed
Could I of that brief life's moments gather a perception
And see it in the landscape of eternity unrehearsed?

Such a deep thought in so few words well rhymed and metered. The idea of consciousness as an eternal force is expressed by pan physicists who believe everything in the universe is built upon consciousness. Consciousness does not mean memory and this may be lost at each transformation. I loved the last line "And see it in the landscape of eternity unrehearsed?" Before and after are relative terms relating to that single instance mentioned in the poem otherwise in eternity there is no before and will be no after. Lovely write.

A deep thought and write. How do we fit in this universe of eternity? A question far deeper than most want to delve into. What is the meaning of life? Very well written in a concise and very poetic way. This is a favorite for sure. I only wish I had written it.

The sentiments expressed herein are the eternal questions we as humans always ponder in one form or another. We ever seek the unknown, hoping to understand, innately knowing that somethings can never be understood. Thus, the endless questions and poems unanswered. Well done!

I love the opening lines of the poem as I relate very much to them. I certainly feel some continuity of my consciousness from lives much much before my present one. This is a fantastic poem on the subject and I'm delighted to read it.

The unrehearsed part is the part that one can hold most dearest, a pioneering sort of adventure that is yours and yours alone!
