What is musicA Story by Bethany_Savyhow would you define music? What
is music? Is it the song on your iPod that you listen to over and over again?
Is it the sound that comes out of an instrument? Is it harmonious? Does it
clash? Is it beautiful and moving? What is the color of music? Can it really be
defined or is it better explained through other means? Music
is the way to another world. The moment
you listen to it, it pulls you. It takes you on a journey that you had never
taken before. To a forest full of trees, a silent pond, a farm with animals, a
busy city in the summer time. Something
feels unique at first but you can’t quite figure it out but it makes you feel
good. You feel the sun on your back or the wind in your hair just from the
illusions that were created. Just as you
start to feel comfortable wit your new surroundings, it’s over and tosses you
back into reality. Music
is an emotional rollercoaster. It brings you up, it drops you down, it bends
and it twists you until you are so dizzy you can’t see straight. Sometimes you hear a certain song and it brings
back memories from your past. Makes you happy for the moment but once its over
you are left in a daze and confused. It makes you question decisions you have
mace in your life. Music is a colorful rainbow. It is
fast, intense, angry shades of red. It has slow, calming relaxing shades of
blue. It has happy, uplifting, yellow. Music is our own body. We all have a
heart that beats in time. It is the bass drum of our lives. Our veins and blood
vessels are the strings. Our hands are the words. They reach out and touch
people. Our feet are the meaning; you have to move on to find it. Our ears pick
up on different things each time. Music is nature. It is a calm
shallow river that runs over rocks and stones on its way. It’s the howling
wolf, signaling for his family to find him. It is the rhythmic beat of humming bird’s
wings. Music makes sense when nothing else
does. There is a song out there for every situation one may face in life.
Finding it is the struggle but once you find it, it comforts you. It pulls you
in and grabs onto you. You bond with it. You listen to it over and over again.
You bond with it. You don’t let it go until you are sure you can move on. Music is the only universal
language. No matter where you go, you find music in one form or another. It
brings people together. Musicians can all read music and this is how they share
their ideas. This is how they share messages and morals, through song. Music cannot be properly defined in
any way shape or form. It is much easier explained as opposed to defined. Music
is more than entertainment when we are bored. Music is who we are. We are all
different but deep down inside us; we are not that different at all. We love
music because of what it is and how it makes us feel. That’s the power of music. © 2013 Bethany_SavyAuthor's Note
