Dollar Store Jeans

Dollar Store Jeans

A Poem by BetanuZwei

I tug at the loose thread

on my dollar store jeans

stretched over a stomach

too large.

I thank you for

washing my favourite

shirt.

You respond only

by combing your fingers

through my hair.

I'm trapped in the

pattern of your dress.

Tracing it around your back

and sides.

You thank me for

paying for dinner

tonight.

I respond only

by kissing your soft lips

and holding you.

They ignore us both.

I'm glad.

Questions are for another day.

Tonight, it's just you,

girl,

and me.

You, me, and that heartbeat

beneath my dollar store jeans

stretched over a stomach

too large.

this is pretty, flowing simply and easily down the page. like water or... water based substances ;) hahhah. on a serious note, again, the last stanza is powerful and pretty. a great way to end the poem. you, me, and that heartbeat.
