In The GardenA Poem by BetanuZweiI left my laces untied on the boots by the river trailing like weeds in the grass. I laughed at the low-hanging jewels glistening so in the trees and whispered out into the wind. It whispered back to me - touch, eat, drink - but I contented myself just to watch winged creatures float about in the sky and I heard them singing. They didn't sing for anyone, yet I heard them and I leapt from the earth. With my heart in my mouth I took hold of the sky and hung, for a moment, like a star, till it slipped from my grasp. I sang as I fell and the sky sang back - touch, eat, drink. I landed softly and wetly on the saturated ground and saw the jewels bear fruit in my footprints. Touch, eat, drink, you whispered in my ear. I took an apple and savoured its taste. © 2011 BetanuZwei |
