If Not Duffers

If Not Duffers

A Poem by BetanuZwei

"If not duffers, won't drown." - A. Ransome

I feel cold,

not a painful, stinging cold,

but constant, numbing.

I am drowning,

though I can scarcely

feel the water around

me surround me

or choke on my own

breath of death

nonetheless

I am drowning

in this frozen wasteland

of forgotten desires

dreams and loves lost.

I am choking on you.
