Retribution

Retribution

A Poem by BetanuZwei

I killed you last night.
Just a dream version,
imagined, translucent.
But you.
Wholly and unequivocally.
I looked at you the same as ever.
But you just looked right through me
Like I was the dream.
So dream me took cellophane hand
and pushed through your skin and bone
and blood and soul
and tore your ghostly heart right out
Still beating in my real hand.

I killed you last night.
I took only what I had to.
Eye for an eye.

Heart for a heart.
