Innocent Skies

Innocent Skies

A Poem by BetanuZwei

I remember we got married,
and they stood around and cheered
under the apple blossom
and the innocent skies.

I remember you decided,
I wasn't really the perfect bride at all
and you swapped me for
the blonde with the toy truck.

I remember we went to the zoo,
and chased around the farmyard geese
and I held your hand through
those learning days.

I remember growing up,
and wondering where you went and
who replaced my best friend
with that teenage boy.

I remember you got shy too,
and boy things and the skies lost all
their innocence to puberty
and experimenting.

I remember losing touch,
we both found other hands to hold
wives and then children
not so different you and I.

I remember remembering,
childhood memories and wondering
where you went and who
you sit with under innocent skies.
