I count to ten and whisper a few affirmations

I suppress the masculine voice inside me

 that tells me I don't deserve anything real.

It brings my old regrets to the surface more strongly

 and throws me into a sea of ​​anxiety.

and I have to swim for hours

if I scream to the horizon the fish will think the apocalypse has come

and i will cry until the world is flooded

Let me hear your voice before the sharks smell my blood

and tell me everything will be alright

I can relate to these words. As one who’s survived my trail by fire, I can honestly tell you “You are alright, there is nothing wrong with you”. Sadly you, like many of us, have had the misfortune of encountering those who are too full of themselves to see worth outside of that. This line haunts me still: "We choose our joys and sorrows long before we experience them" by Khalil Gibran. I find myself even now saying who the hell would pick what I have known.
