Bride Blew Fairs

Bride Blew Fairs

A Poem by Beren

Bride blew fairs.
wine stains on a white dress.
children playing with balloons.
a nervous waiter spits in champagne for those who don't tip.

There are many people against this entertainment
and they will turn this place into a funeral
But we have to remove the coffin before the police arrive.

graffiti written side by side on the walls by rightists and leftists
There's a line behind an outlaw to buy cotton candy
Clowns are waiting to turn into Joker

pre
and they took the signal cause I take off my high heels.
Run Rudolph Run!

chorus
Don't let the criminals who think they're Bonnie and Clyde get away.
They will try to sell their poems as political propaganda
They will take the money and run away and move to a planet where they become ghosts.
Don't let those unbelievers meet God before us.

v2
Most of the rumors are true 'cause we proved them right
We'll wear our friendly masks and drink teas with sugar.
Because things won't get any sweeter later.

The birds stop singing when they see us
but I think it's because they want to listen to our voices
I can hear the horsemen approaching us
and a bullet passed me by

pre
If you taste the coal from my lips
Run Johnny Run!

Don't let these nameless people get you down
and it's time for them to see your true face
where my kisses and hands roam
Don't let them think we are good people!

and years later
a historian ends
his book with these words
 "bride blew fairs"

This reminds me of an old Shangrilas song.
"Give us your Blessing"
I like the graffiti part so much...and I often wonder how historians fifty years from now will view us and what we were.
Poetry can also be romantic propaganda ... and I can envision a couple of poets (I was married to one) sitting side by side in an old Ford with their typewriters shot to pieces by a barrage of criticism.
A poem that took me places.
