The Great Fitzgerald

The Great Fitzgerald

A Poem by Beren
"

I'm not sure if F. Scott actually did something like this, it's just a rumour but I still got a free book

"
I'm at the bookstore by the river that I always go to
The drunk salesman who only talks to me if I buy expensive books smiled at me this time
He's a handsome guy with his green eyes

He reached for the computer and opened Edith Piaf as usual

And I headed towards the shelves
I saw The Great Gatsby and sighed and mumbled " agh men!"
He came to me with his green eyes lost in the smell of wine
"What have we done again?"

I said "F.Scott stole Zelda's words"
He just looked at me with a grin
I continued telling him

"Scott wrote this book by stealing quotes from Zelda's diary
And he didn't want Zelda to mention him in Save Me The Waltz."

Without answering, he took the book from my hand and went to where the pencils were
He took a black pencil and scribbled the cover of the book
And wrote a name on it in terrible handwriting
"Zelda Fitzgerald"

He handed me the book and smiled and said
"If Scott got anywhere by stealing Zelda's words
you should give The Great Fitzgerald a chance"

I would like to have a drunk book salesman. Could be a good conversation. I would like to work in a bookstore. Discuss books all day. I liked the tale dear Beren. A perfect ending. Thank you for sharing the amazing and entertaining poetry.

I read The Great Gatsby in high school. I have Tender is the Night on my bookshelf but I've never read it. I tried once but became so annoyed with the endless descriptions, I was like, hell, man, get on with the story because nobody cares how many buttons and ruffles she wears. (laughing) Never got further. One of my favorites on my bookshelf is Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier'; "Last night I dreamed I went to Manderley..." So many wonderful books, so little time. I enjoyed the read.

Aww thank you so much for your visit!
F Scott was not the only one to use his partner's words extensively B. So did DH Lawrence, and Frieda's biography of DH is Fabulous. I loved this Poem of yours, it is like a piece of Literary History in itself. Exceptional ✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️

Wonderful writing, I don't have too much to say on it. Funny story though, my teacher made sure to ingrain that fact into us when we were reading "The Great Gatsby." Once again amazing writing, this is easily my favorite of yours. It's technically impressive, and incredibly cohesive. A natural born storyteller you are.

We all steal words for our poems and conversations, things we have heard remembered and more likely not. Words that made an impression on us and we filed away in the dark recesses of our mind to retrieve later maybe in distorted form. Fossils retrieved marks of the past. I often think that the poems I write are nothing more than plagiarized bits and pieces of others thoughts and would I have had them if I hadn't heard or read them. A great story and metaphor.
