Mirror

A Poem by Victoria Berdnt
"

I wrote this poem when I was really depressed...

"
as I look in the mirror
tears streaming down my face
I start to wonder,
what happened to my smiling face?

what happened to that girl,
who wasn't scared to smile?
what happened to that girl,
who wasn't scared of love?

that girl is gone
she's been gone for a while now
no one knows where she is
and they probably never will

you all wonder,
why she left
but what you don't know
is that its all cause of them

do you know what it takes,
for her to put a razor to her skin,
how much hatred it takes,
to see that crimson red

she's scared of getting judged
for being herself
so instead she pretends
to be someone else

you tell her to smile
you tell her to laugh
you tell her to,
stop putting on an act

but what you don't know
is that she hates
her smile,
and her laugh

she hates her body
she hates herself
so to take away the pain
she puts that razor to her skin

you want to help her
you want that girl back
you want her to love herself
as much as you love her

you promised her
no matter what it takes
you'll show her she's loved
even if its just by you

you tell her everyday
how much you care
how much you need her
and how much you love her

she looks in the mirror
and you look with her
you smile at her
and she slowly smiles back at you

you wrap you arms around her
telling her everything will be okay
you whisper you love her
and that it'll never change

she slowly starts believing you
that she really is loved
she puts down the razor
for hopefully the last time

she no longer needs it
if she has you
you all she needs
to get through this

her scars are fading
her smiles returning
her laughs no longer fake
she's finally coming back, from her hiding place

lets hope she stays
cause thats what we want
the real her
the one we all love

Heavy s**t.

The writing was good, I liked the format, font and color.

I felt blue was a good choice for such an apathetic theme.

In terms of life advice, and I'm sure you've either heard this or don't care

but

You cannot hold people at gun (or knife point) pointed at yourself (or others) in attempts to make people love you.

Body image is a tough thing to accept

Especially in today's society

But self hate is purposeless.

Don't take this the wrong way

Your writing is great

But self harm is not okay.
