Last moment

Last moment

A Poem by Benson Osuji
"

A poem wondering the moment before death

"
What goes through our mind?
At that last moment when death takes us blind
Leading us by the hands
On a journey to times sands
What goes on when our last we fizzle to mother air
What goes on when our last we take as fair

Do we rain curses on what we've lost
Or blessings on those we love the most
Do we take our final accounts to check
Whether ours would be a legacy for future necks
What goes on when our last we fizzle to mother air
Do we stop and think of life's fare

Just what goes on ..........
We might never know under the sun
But if a little grace
We brought down to our face
Then maybe we might never worry
And go down never feeling sorry

Monty Python (Eric Idle) wrote something like
"....you come from nothing ... you're going back to nothing .... what have you lost? Nothing!"

It's an interesting question I try not to think about it. But the other thing I remember is a fellow trainer who told a group 'nobody on their death-bed says I wish I'd spent more time in the office'.

The only serious comment I can contribute is that I do believe there will be a moment of reflection. Whether we have a religious faith or not, most people have some kind of moral code and/or standards by which they try to live. And I do think there's a moment when you can't help yourself from saying 'how did I do'? Since I believe that, it obliges me to try every day to follow my moral ethical etc standards so that this moment of reckoning will hopefully be not too traumatic.

I believe we decide our ending.
"Then maybe we might never worry

I have been with many people dying. Those who led with concern, kindness and love. Were surrounded by many and love shared. Bad people will spill out sadness and regret. Still too late. Thank you Benson for sharing the amazing poetry and thoughts.
