Mistake of us all

Mistake of us all

A Poem by Benson Osuji
"

National poem in sorrow of what my nation is

"

Gone are the days

The days of a great aura

When shined new rays

A new path for a proud mural

The murals of change fade

No one hears the little lie

The lie that was made

In utter hunger for power's pie

The beautiful promise

We all believed would come to pass

Now haunts in societal demise

In every of our ways like poison gas

We can do nothing

But listen to our death

As we kindled a fire for something

Not knowing what we met

This is our choice

Our country with leaders we voted for

Very emotive and you definately get your point across of how you feel sorrow for the nation and how it has to face through the decision of the current leaders. I like how you are not taking away human qualities from these 'leaders'. It is usually very common for poetry to de-humanise someone they do not like but I believe that keeping these human qualities such as making promises and lying makes them seem very wicked. Thank you for the excellent read.
