A Story by ben

Daydreaming of having a steaming cup of coffee and a solid drag off that elusive smoke, Benny almost runs into Vincent who has stopped dead in his tracks. “S**t,” is all Vincent says which is enough for Benny to step alongside to where he too sees a kid standing ahead of them. Shoeless and without a shirt, the boy’s hair is long and dirty as is his face. What stands out the most is the kid’s opaque eyes giving them an off-centered stare as the boy’s voice is steady and full of authority, “Follow me if you want to live.” That said, the boy turns to go that has Benny and Vincent sharing a look that leads to doing what was asked as the hard comparison is their dependence of needing light that develops into a pinch of jealousy of missing out on being able to see like a cat spying on a field mouse, stalking, each paw powered up in wanting to go.
