The Traveler

The Traveler

A Story by ben

No warmth to be felt, what adds to this predawn discomfort is a stiff breeze saying hello with a cold handshake and not liking the way it is hanging around, adds a few thin branches onto the progressing fire. What had of the heat radiating from the fire does little good, and having a thought that in an hour’s time there will be enough light to get after the morning chores, makes a mental list.

Replenishing his supply of water tops the charts, and a bite to eat before they go would be nice too. As for the dog, one of the oversized sweaters will do nicely as a carryall. Food wise, he will share, and half thinking Lilly will too, adds another thin branch that is immediately taken up in the arms of dancing flames.

A glance over, tells of no movement that triggers forth the scene of Lilly taking her first cast that swings him all the way back to her baiting the hook with a live worm. Feeling warm and fuzzy about what envisioned, figures the tea won’t hurt the dog that gets him thinking that a container is needed. Opening the main flap of the pack, just to the inside, is a bowl. Of it being one of the three gifts allowed, goodness is its maker’s mark as seen in its quality infused splendor making up the bowl’s integrity. For now, it will be a dog dish.
