The Traveler

The Traveler

A Story by ben

The way back to the kid has him moving at a careful pace when pieces start to fall together that builds a picture of the woman still wanting revenge. Death of the man will not erase the memory and yet she has put him in that position. Hard is his stance as he slips ahead to what he has left to do.

Getting close to the kid’s hiding spot, ahead are glowing eyes, and thinking those eyes belong to a beast hellbent on tearing him to pieces, with gear in hand, the kid walks into view. Somewhat relaxed in that he lowers his loaded sling, as always, off to the kid’s side is the rooster doing what roosters do. The sight of both has him asking, “Did you get tired of waiting or what.” Without a word in answering his question, the kid points. “To the north then, Traveler.” She is only a kid, but right then, her voice sounds a thousand years old. Outside of that, working its way in is that she knows where he wants to go.
