The Absence of God

The Absence of God

A Poem by Benjamin J Booth
"

A man coming to a realization about his god and the relief he feels.

"
The Absence of God

God that never wert!
Are thou disguised from me?
Unable to hide the hurt,
that grows like a tree
inside mine heart of ecstasy.

Priests are pale with thought,
that thou do not exist.
Stories they have taught
are the truth! They insist,
with beloved Christ, the Bibles words they twist.

Turbulent and brooding,
thou absence I accept.
With this rant concluding,
into a god free zone I leapt,
with spiritual relief, that across me had swept!

Author's Note

Benjamin J Booth
The style is intended to be inspired by Percy Shelley, who was himself an atheist but obviously I can never match up to his genius so please forgive me if the language is not entirely correct. Also please do not be offended if you have a religious belief, I am merely exploring a character's realization about God.

This was powerful, real and quite revealing.
You have opened your feelings up, and completely bared your soul.
I like how real this piece was.
