The Mathematics of Relationships

The Mathematics of Relationships

A Poem by Graybeard

XX + XY
always = an ex
Why?

You and I
are no exception to this Law.
Our unbalanced equation
has resulted in
a division of assets
and one confused remainder.

Had we but reveled
in the simplicity
of 1/2 + 1/2 = 1
we might have multiplied
our happiness exponentially.

Now we are reduced
to fractions
having added only misery
and subtracted years
from our finite spans
for nothing more
than this tangent.

You're a genius! Wow!
I love the play and pain in this poem. It's so insightful and so true!
There's a quirky sense of lightness in its flow (and the use of math equations of course) and yet there's hint of a real breaking heart under the surface. It gives me the sense of looking back on something that has come to pass- like everything's always just a little funnier in hindsight, even if it had scarred you.
This just really spoke to me considering the things I've been through recently... and I took real delight in reading it. :)
