Apparent Horizon

Apparent Horizon

A Poem by Graybeard
"

A Pantoum about the Indian Ocean, my purgatory

"
bottle green glass waves break on the bow
the ocean's pulse assaults the ship
throbbing foaming white crested
beneath the slate squall sky

the ocean's pulse lifts the ship, pulls it down
riding out these troughs and crests
squeezed between the slate squall sky above
and the beating of the Indian Ocean

the space between the lowest trough and highest crest
where the gravity well turns itself inside out
is the beating heart of the Indian Ocean
this is the storm that has no eye

just before the gravity well turns itself inside out
we pass through the event horizon
into the beating heart of the Indian Ocean
from which there is no return

we passed through the horizon in the morning
throbbing foaming and white crested
knowing we could not return
as bottle green glass waves broke against the bow
