Scenes

A Poem by Maurice
"

Different scenarios relating to war and to public indifference.

"
The blazing sun
Scorches the earth;
The blue sky
Almost mockingly
Crowns the day
While down below
The people continue
To kill one another
In a brutal game
Called war.

Lizards frolic about
The stone and briar-filled garden
And on the ground
Is a blood-soaked shirt
Once khaki but no more,
now just a memory.

In the city
The people walk
Along the streets,
Stopping to buy
Multicolored ices,
Saying it is
The hottest summer
Anyone can remember
In years.

This makes me shudder because it is so vivid. Thank you for the mental picture and the reminder of the cold horrors of war.

It amazes me the depth of the narcissism of some people. You have captured the indifference quite well.

A very stark contrast: war and pleasant images of nature. The meaning behind it is very apparent, nice job.

.
. brilliantly powerful and potent ... public indifference is extremely frustrating ... especially to those of us who are still interested in a better world ...

love the matter-of-fact tone that weaves with the sickening issues that come with war and destruction. and that's how it is! we talk about the weather while we watch people die for no reason. sick world.
brilliant piece.

You make the point extremely well. I had a conversation with my brother-in-law before the bombs started falling in Iraq. He was all for it, but I wasn't, saying it was trumped up and not necessary. I asked "What about all the lives that are going to be lost?" His answer was "So?"

Such amazing imagery and wonderfully written.
Powerful and kind of chilling really. Well written!!

What a disconnect. Shocking to the system, and seemingly impossible. But shamefully all too real. Sad and powerful. And a sad commentary on our state.
Thanks for the write.
