The Fallen Rose

The Fallen Rose

A Poem by Belle Astell

With the past behind, she flourishes in her new home.

Amongst the smaller flowers, a new life emerges,

Where smiles and sunshine nourish her soul.

With a new sense of self, she marvels as

the sunrise with awe. Anxiously awaiting

each day and the adventure it will bring.

Soon, too soon, the novelty wears off.

Joys dwindle to regrets as she watches

the true colors of the smaller flowers

fade to gray.

She loses her

petals one by

one – her hopes,

her dreams, her

health, her cares

and the stem starts

to bend.

She smiles her last smile to the tune of Fur Elise.

The sun has set for the final time on this beautiful flower.

The stem snaps and the rose falls.
