Little Bird

Little Bird

A Chapter by Bekah B

Little bird beating on the window

You’re flying too fast

Toward the bulletproof glass

That will snap your neck in two.

I know it’s pretty inside

This dream house built of stone

But the windows are closed

To keep out the cold

And the wildlife like you.

So persistent, little bird

Flap your wings until they burn

Until you feel them break

Just keep trying if you must

You won’t get past the window pane.

Oh, yes, I can see you there

Making your kamikaze runs

Soon it will kill you-

Maybe your tiny heart will explode

And you’ll fall to the ground

All feather, blood, and bone

Right outside a deadbolted window.

Quite pleased with this one, if I do say so. I like the pacing of the lines, and the rhythmic feeling it invokes. The tonality was poignant. Well done.
