Lady Jane

Lady Jane

A Chapter by Bekah B

Lady Jane
Wake up, you're sweet sixteen

Place your hand on the windowsill
And as the sun sinks into your skin
Feel the power

Put on your dress, Jane
And walk down the halls with pride
Every eye is watching you
Princess of the North

Royal blood burns through your veins
A curse you can't escape-
You're bleeding

Dearly beloved
Your cousin Edward is dead
Princess
The king is dead

You've been handed a crown
Throw it away, Jane
While you still have a chance
Don't carry a country
Don't carry violence on your shoulders

Stubborn- you didn't listen
The crown from your hand is now on your head
And it's cutting
Queen Jane

The country's in tangles
Mary is fuming
There are swords at your back
Gleaming, glinting
Swords of traitors at the Traitor's back

Traitor?
They're calling you a traitor
But you are also their queen

They're coming for you
Run, Jane
Drop your crown and run

Too late
Mary's here
Your husband's blood runs thick upon the block
You're next-
Breathe deep-
Retain your dignity

Queen of your own accord
But a pawn in England's games
Nine days you lived in fear
This is the end

Long live Queen Jane
And here's the block
Face the sword with all the pride in your veins
And the sword swings down
"Lord, into your hands I commit my spirit"
The ground is slick with blood
Dark with dignity
