Six Months

Six Months

A Chapter by Bekah B

It’s been six months since you walked away
Down those steps and into the rain
Six long months since we parted ways
Many more until we meet again.
There’s blankets on a bunk bed
And everything that people said
Waiting for me.
There’s a pretty little warzone
Dust and ash and blood and bone
Waiting for you.
Time is nothing but it’s all we have
So we have nothing.
Who can act, who can sing in this day and age
If all the world’s a stage
Break out of your cage
And give me something to live for.
Everything happens oh so fast
At the speed of a sonic blast
I don’t know where to go.
It’s been six months since I saw you
I dug through history
I found a mystery
And lost the only faith I had.
Where’s the beaten path you took?
Tears, fears, cheers all by the book
Until it all comes crashing down.
So what do you have to show
To persuade me with before I go?
It’ll take six months more to decide
If buying a truck is worth the ride
But it’s a matter of pride
And if you’re still on my side
You’ll light a match.
You’ll set my heart on fire
We’re down to the wire and we just can’t win
So when I ask where you’ve been
You’ll give me an answer
And don’t lie to me
I’m the only one you trust
But I’m the only one you never see.
Six months is all I have to give
But then I’ve got my life to live
Until then I’ll stand right here
And be the pedestal that holds you up.
I’m not made of stone or steel
Though my flesh and blood and love is real
I can only endure for so long
Because I’m not that strong.
You know, I think it’s you that makes me weak
I think it’s your fault that I can’t speak
What do I have to show
To persuade you with before you go?
Truth is I have nothing
Except the only thing you want.
Why wait six months
When I’m here right now
Let’s get away from these people
Let’s get out of this town,
So far it’s done nothing for us
Let’s put the open road before us
In six months we’ll know who we are
And hope everyone else forgets.
Let’s outsmart time, outsmart everyone
All you have to say is yes.

The Flipside of the World is bursting with emotion if these poems are any indication of its state. The secretive heartfelt notions revisited in lines that wrap themselves around the reader, begging for a touch of sincerity along with a glass of wisdom. Even the smallest words seem to find value as they strike a chord and turn, rising up in a similar book to tell tales of forgotten deeds long ago parted. Glad you shared.
