Of Bridges and WineA Chapter by Bekah B
When you try to sever ties
You swiftly realize That you can only burn so many bridges Before you set yourself on fire One too many sends you up in flames Any more, you just might die. Did you ever ask why? Why burn them When they're waiting to be crossed Why destroy them When the battle isn't lost Why spend all your time Breaking and not making history. Find truth in the smallest detail Redemption in the grand design If you have to set a fire Sit back, watch it shine. Sit back in wonder Don't spill your cheap, crappy wine- It stains. All that gets accomplished anymore Is burning life to ashes And filling the air with soot. Your one-track mind remains oblivious As fire burns and laps and scorches Around the life you built. So you light more torches? You're missing the point- This elaborate facade you place In front of your face Is meant to hide the burns. Did you forget it's wooden, too? Do you ever think about what you do? You're going up in flames In a city that you built Stranded on a God-forsaken island Just teeming with your guilt. Your only chance of escape Is sizzling as we speak Have you given up yet? I have. Sit back and finish your glass It may bloody well be the last Thing you ever do So stand atop your cracking bridge Blazing torch held high Are you drunk enough to jump? But if you end up listening And do what I tell you to In the end it will be me Burning yet another bridge for you. © 2010 Bekah B |
