Count the Stars

Count the Stars

A Chapter by Bekah B

Where does the time go?
Slipping, ripping, dripping away until there's nothing left
But the future calling for us,
The misery between us,
And the torment of the past.

The keys of time unlock no door
They break no barrier and save no lives.
Strapped to the belt loop of an angry warden
Who paces through the sky
They are useless
They wait
They watch us die.

Count the stars.
If you can, you have wasted years
But you know the magnitude of the sky,
You understand how small you are.
How insignificant.

That is the only key you need.
Hoping, waiting, wishing, praying for the earth to stop rotating
can not and will not save anything.

Do not for a minute lose yourself while you reckon the stars
For they number your dreams,
Keep them tucked away, in check and unharmed.
Every star you count, while it won't stop time
Writes you onto the pages of history
Deep into the annals of existence
Where time began and where it shall one day end.
The promise of remembrance.
Immortality.
