A Leaf's Life

A Leaf's Life

A Poem by Chantal Z

I float, so freely
Letting the wind take control of my journey
Enjoying the adventure of not knowing
Where I'm going
But I'm floating
High into the sky where the birds sing
Feeling the cool air that the fall brings
But just as fast, I can fall so low
Down to the ground where no one wants to go
I'm sure not existing is much better than this
Than feeling the kiss of their shoes on my lips
As I get looked over, they don't even know I'm there
Not one soul took the time out to care
To them, surely someone as insignificant as I
Could never have feelings, never sit & cry
Never wonder why, I was given this life
Never wonder how I'll make it through the night

I could succumb to my situation & give up
Chalk it all up to my bad luck
But I think I'll be different & stay strong
& wait for the day the wind comes back along
To take me high again, with my friends the birds
Enjoying this freedom, feeling the urge
To be the best that I can, through every season
Allowing myself to one day be the reason
That someone can have a smile on their face
Because I was there, at the right time, right place
And once again I'll be floating
No idea where I'm going
But enjoying the adventure of not knowing
