Stargazing

Stargazing

A Story by Becca Hebron

-11/14/15-

“Saturday night, I stargazed, and in the sky, I saw a shooting star. It’s been years since I’ve been able to catch one and call it mine.

So I took the chance to wish on it, and I wished for you.

I wished for us.

But then the sky twinkled back and whispered in my ear, ‘I cannot give you something that you already have.’

I looked up from your chest and remembered that you were right there with me, stargazing the same sky I wished on for so long. You laid by my side on that pathetic field I knew so well and the word, ‘alone’, no longer existed.

I realized I no longer had to gaze above to see the universe. All I had to do was take a glimpse at your face and I saw it. I saw the universe.

Moonlight danced on your skin and your eyes glowed brighter than the stars. You were made of beautiful, abundant galaxies, tied together by gravity. Constellations freckled your complexion. My life fell into orbit with yours.

You became my world.”
