Expecting something else.

I bet you didn’t think you’d find

A small piece of yourself.

 

I am an awkward teenage pumpkin.

Society defines me so -

But outside the layers peel away

And beneath I will forever glow.

 

I think you know what I’m trying to say - 

I think you’re starting to see

While an artificial girl resides out here,

Inside I’m only me.

 

You’ve heard it once and time again

But did you really stop to think?

The canvas that you show the world

Has only drying paint.

 

Inside you are the purest you

And it’s there for you to see!

Though captured on the outside

Within you, you are free.

 

Please don’t think I mean it harshly,

Some people just don’t understand

That differences complete us,

That we all stand hand in hand.

 

I once was there - I once believed

That they were always right

They said I was an awkward pumpkin

And it wasn’t worth the fight.

 

I’m not trying to be all mushy

But please just look inside yourself

Society might define you

But it only does so with your help

 

I’m standing for the inside

Because when outside fades away

The real me that’s grown so strong

Won’t miss a single day.

 

I bet you read this thinking

It was something else instead

But since you started reading

Have you considered what I’ve said?

Don't change it!! I don't know if you remember me, but I think this poem is wicked cool. When it gets you to think, draws many scenes in your head, short-stacks are adorable and the smell of skunks is neat, and it has a lot of catchy lines in it... that's awesome!! This is really well written, Becca A strong message all gift wrapped in your own brilliant humor, you convey this all important message using what? PUMPKINS!! (who would have thought that possible :D) but seriously this is a great write, a lot us have to be that person that society wants us to be even though we might want to break free and just run riot and I do feel we should let that out because like you say beneath we all glow. A truly inspiring write which anyone can relate to and learn from...great write Becca, well done!

Whoa. Just whoa. Slow down there you crazy little...crazy little...crazy...little....fruit loop :D I'm going to share with you a few things...through song!!! No, just kidding :P
1) Becca is never wrong. Even when it seems like she might perhaps be wrong, she half the time turns out being less wrong than the wronger side of the chocolate chip right above the bottom half of your granola bar. When Becca is wrong (which she can't be) she will destroy anything that has the potential to prove her wrong using illegal tuna fish and a miniature trampoline disguised as a rhino.
2) If Becca is wrong, refer to rule one (1)
3) Everyone knows that purple beats yellow with green spots...I mean, come on! Look it up in your "Becca's Rules for Every Occasion" book.
4) If you don't have the book mentioned above then you obviously are against Becca. If you are against Becca then bad things happen. To expound, I will share a small story with you:

If you give a Becca a WritersCafe profile, a laptop, three boxes of assorted candy, and the power of sarcasm:
Written By: A very secret person (Becca Bishop)

If you give a Becca a cookie....oh, wait, wrong story.
If you don't give a Becca your loyalty, you will probably find a cookie eating mouse in your mother's basement closet.
If you give a Becca your loyalty, you will still find a cookie eating mouse in your mother's basement, but this time the mouse will also want some milk. 2% milk, if possible.

So as you can see as demonstrated above, we all need to show Becca the respect that she doesn't really deserve and make sure that we don't call her a liar even if she is, in fact, lying.

And they all lived happily ever after, the end :)

I Love this! I wasn't even planning to write something like this at first; I was trying to come up with a really roundabout way of insulting my sister. I called her an awkward teenage pumpkin thinking of the pumpkin from Cinderella's story for some odd reason. She threw a shoe at me and refused to come squish a spider a found in the bathroom.
At least I got a nice name out of it all :D :D :D
