Let's PretendA Poem by Becca BishopSo let's pretend for a few moments that this poem doesn't have too many of these "-" and these ",". Let's pretend that I actually know what I'm talking about when we all know I don't. That'll be nice.Let’s pretend - For one second, one moment - Let’s pretend that something Something called love Really exists. Alright. Fine with me. I’ve got nothing better to do. Let’s pretend that florid hues really do appear - Like sun-kissed blossoms - In the cheeks of a girl. And let’s pretend that the solemn whispers, Proclamations, cries Of I love you aren’t all really false. We might even be able to believe - If we were so inclined - To pretend that this thing called love Isn’t a figment of imagination. Confusion. Loneliness. We could pretend that love doesn’t fade. Those feelings stay the same. Although we all know That They Don’t.
So let’s pretend. For a second. A moment. A minute. A lifetime. That I’ve found you. And you’ve found me. And whatever lies beyond that is something We don’t need to worry about. Let’s pretend that for once This thing they call love Isn’t as complicated as they say it is. Let’s pretend that it’s pure. Golden. True. Maybe when we stop pretending, And go our separate ways You’ll still see the florid hues of my smile In the early morning sky. Just as I will hear your voice whenever the rain Tears at my window. And maybe - Just maybe - When, if ever, we meet again This time we won’t have to pretend This time it won’t be pretend. © 2012 Becca BishopReviews
