I Left It On the HillA Poem by Becca BishopA poem I had to write for an extracurricular group. The prompt? I left it on the hill. (I didn't think it was all that great, but I won the contest we were having!)I left it on the hill- The one that owned our childhood- To stay there forever. The hill where we played; While pines guarded us, And the sun danced for us. The hill where two memory-children Still wander.
I left it on the hill- Where I offered my life to you- The diamond ring nestled in the grass. On the hill where we sat; While the pines witnessed our joy, And the sun kissed your face. The hill where our happiness began And continues.
I left it on the hill- Where you stood in white- All the fears I ever had, gone. On the hill were we joined; While the pines wept tearful needles, And the sun protected us. The hill where our past-selves merged Together, forever
I left you on the hill- And the tears left my eyes- You, in white again, until I join you. Under the hill of dark death dirt; While the pine stumps guard us, And the sun bleeds thickly into the sky. The hill were we will stay Entwined into eternity. © 2012 Becca Bishop |
