Cirque De Queer.

A poem by Kim Mathews.

Welcome to our world,

where the strange is considered norm,

where the odd is quite accepted,

and the normal, here, is scorned.

So prepare yourself for a little trip

of the grotesque and the weird;

because anything can happen

when you visit Cirque De Queer

Everyone has seen the woman

with the whiskers on her chin.

Her name now is Tanya…

But his name used to be Tim.

He saved up all his money,

(very pleased he was, with his buy)

but alas, the surgeon made a slip,

and she remains half a guy.

Now hear about our Fire Breather,

a Divinci at his art.

He’s still on loan from the asylum:

they’re not really all that smart.

He sat his home ablaze

with his family still in bed,

and proceeded to watch in madness

as his home went up in Red.

Our lovely trapeze artist

is the youngest of our crew.

She’s really rather charming

for the age of twenty-two.

…Yet for her second frame of mind,

the same cannot be said.

She’s demented and she’s violent

when she’s lost inside her head.

Our Ring Master, I must say,

has the saddest tale of all.

Last spring he tried to hang himself

because his love was Nellie Falls.

Our fantastic lion tamer,

she was beautiful and wild-

until her lions ate her,

after that she was rather mild.

What may be said of me, you ask?

Not much if truth be told.

I’m but a simple circus clown,

here to amuse the young and old.

My story quakes before the others,

because I don’t have much to say…

However: please don’t look inside my freezer,

I’d like my job to stay.
