I saw the sun today

 I saw the sun today

when i arose from my bed

and peered out the window

the sky didn’t look so gray

i didn’t seem to realize how muted the colors had become

until the beautiful rays of color hit me

with the warm heat of the sun

i had been accompanied by a rain cloud

soaking me through to the bone

with tears shed on my cheeks

but now as i sit and cry, reveling in my quiet joy

i see the bright colors of purple, pink and orange

the sun rises from the horizon

I didn’t seem to notice how weighed down i had become

my life was void of color

with shades of black and grey

the little rain cloud has seemed to disappear for now

although i know some days it will  return

but in the end I know I’ll be okay

because i saw the sun today
