Consume

I’ve seen it shatter you

In only a way addiction does

Drop by drop it consumed you

You became lost

In the way it made you feel 

And the way it made life easier

The demons seemed to drown

Along with your happiness

I’ve seen the way you coped

And the toll it had on you

It put fear in me

That I could  become lost like you

I’m scared to drink 

For I feel the same desire

To get lost in the dazed expressions

That made you unrecognizable

I’m ashamed to say these words

Because they ring so true

I’m afraid of what consumed you

Will eventually consume me too
