Worth the storm

She has kind eyes,
a heart of gold
she laughs with her entire soul
feels like sunshine
warm and bright
turns darkness and fear into the light
she's lost but helps people find themselves
repairs broken hearts but forgets herself
she fills other's lives with joy and peace
but inside she's sad and feels incomplete
she wonders where she can make changes
why it feels so strange
to be loved for who she is
when she can't seem to accept it
the weight she carries on her shoulders brings her down
but everyone sees the smiles, never the frown
she's sweet like sugarcane,
but feels bitter inside
the weight of this burden to spread light
when she feels that she's burning from the inside
she wants to help others but forgets herself
others are worth the pain
until they leave you by yourself
who do you have left to hold when you give away all your joy
your left behind, maybe that was always your ploy
to distract everyone else with the light that you spread
so they don't see the darkness that you cannot shed
it's an illusion, that you have no pain inside
you start to lose grip because your hands are tied
what's a life worth living, if you can't accept who you are
You are like a firefly trapped into a jar
you keep all this fire trapped
it will burn you from the inside
be sweet like sugarcane
that won't rot your teeth
take care of yourself, so you feel complete
give yourself a little love, spread the warmth
love yourself as you do others, you are worth the storm

I have met women like her, who will do anything to help others, even though they suffer in silence themselves. They are selfless. These people deserve to be cherished. There are those who truly are selfless and so giving to a fault. The kind of person who would sacrifice their own happiness in order to give that joy to others. It's why many in society today choose to hate rather than love. Because love requires sacrifice while hate does not. This poem speaks to that sad truth. It's why if anyone knows a person who is selfless let them know they are loved and appreciated as well. Give back to them the love they have given to others, so that their heart is never empty.
