The SearchA Chapter by Ashton SmithYou would think that finding someone in such a small, close town would be easy, but not when it came to Emma. He asked everyone: the lunch ladies, all the teachers, grouchy Prinicipal Davis, the baker, the baker, even the homeless man down the street. Luke couldn't understand the look they all had as he inquired of the missing girl. Each one almost looked sympathetic as they told him of hearing of the name but not knowing the red head personally. Even students at school told him that he might be better off to stay out of other's business. He couldn't stand it anymore. Her sudden disappearance just made him more curious about who she was. Replaying the moment they met over and over again like a film on automatic. No matter how hard he tried, the image of her bright green eyes stuck out in his mind. Not only was sleep impossible, but his grades dropped immensely too. Sure, he didn't have the picture perfect grades to begin with so it didn't affect him much. His parents were another matter completely. Daniel Fielding continued to avoid his son while Maggie Fielding gave Luke endless support. She would send small smiles his way and do little things such as breakfast in bed or gathering his laundry when he had forgotten that morning. To be honest, it made his eyes fill with tears in seeing all the love she continued to give him. Even if he did ruin her and her families' life. Luke sighed as he stapled the freshly printed sign to the town bulletin board. How hard can it be to find a gorgeous red head in this small town? When looking around aimlessly, he noticed that no one else had red hair. So how hard can it be? "Very hard," he muttering, slipping into his truck and starting up the rusty engine. One thing was for sure. There was no way he would give up until he found her. © 2017 Ashton Smith |
