Dancing in the DarknessA Poem by beautifulbladerandom poem after not writing for months
I've never been one for ballroom,
although tangoing over the hot coals of expectations has always been a dream. But instead, I shy away from watchful eyes and let the music move me as it may, swaying back and forth to the undertone of bass drums and melancholy melodies. Take my soul to the stars in surprising steps of fate, strings parading me around from one emotion to the next like a marionette. I lie in wait, holding on to the moment as it dances by. In the darkness, I am alone with thoughts of what the future holds: they waltz in and out of view, just out of sight behind shadows before side stepping back out the door. My heart sambas to the beat of cliche syncopation and I find rest between measures of mystery and mirage. The rhythm calls my footsteps forward into the unknown and I am bound to each note like a breath, pausing before the fall into nothing. Like pianissimo, I fade back into memory, dreaming of the tango I've longed for.
