Hiding the Truth Inside Concrete WallsA Poem by beautifulblade5/7/15
She's crying in her room at night,
wasting through words and over-rehearsed lies because there was never a truth she was able to share. Her heart was filled with landmines placed there by his hand, every unspoken promise of passion that she would never understand. He shot bullets in his silence, ground her self-esteem into the dirt until she was so small she couldn't even tell if she was standing. Left behind and broken, spray-painted S.O.S. on concrete walls that only faced towards her. He forced a romance on her life she didn't choose to be her own, but never outright refused the taboo or the tears; just shook her head in silence as salt water rivers mingled with her cheeks. She crafted her disguise from smiles and lies but it was never enough to keep it hidden from herself. © 2015 beautifulblade |
