Consequence

Consequence

A Poem by So Ensnared Truth
"

I deserved it. She did not.

"

Consequence

She always knew if I was there

Somehow remembering me

Amongst the chaos

I cared for her, and, seemingly, she cared for me

Others would be ignored

Dismissed, even

As she sought me out

I felt loved and wanted

I was told that I must be special

“She’s not like that with anyone else”

I haven’t seen her for some time

Not through choice, but through consequence

Through a fault of my own

A fault I never intended, but one I deservedly was punished for

Now we don’t see one another

And probably never will

I use my solitude to think of her

Praying she’ll remember me

Think of me

Miss me

And forget me...

I like that the 'consequence' isn't actually named. The Before and the After are described succinctly and illuminatingly, but the Cause is not (which isn't a bad thing, as it's not the focus).

The last stanza really captures the emotions after a relationship-death, in my opinion. Wanting desperately to be remembered, and wishing everything could go back to the way it was, but then recalling the guilt, and wishing to vanish from existence.

Thanks Nienor. Your summation of the last stanza is spot on.
