walking to work

walking to work

A Poem by Amy Craig Beasley

droplets

drawn

by the

clouds

defying

gravity

appear to dance along the water's edge

before they

dissipate

and

there

in that mist

I walk

past the pond

and through the blackberries and roses

so sweet

and

across a slatted

bridge

that swings

and creaks

and falls

as I step

and rebounds

as I lift

and

on and on

I look down

and

see

between the slats

of aged wood

the maddened creek

red

and running

below

so blue before

and

so blue it

will grow

again

in a day or two

more

the water

it darts and

in its rage

it roars

but

will

again

know submission

as it thins

and returns

to

the sea

and me?

Oh

I step

over

this

and once again on

the ground

I move

toward the gardens and

another

day

I thoroughly enjoy how specific this is, it's as if I were walking to work with you. Lovely.

Sometimes I think the purest poetry is capturing a moment in time, crystallizing it, immortalizing it - No explanation, just a gift. This is one of those poems. From your flow to the form, you take our hands and allow us to accompany you as you sieze this tiny reprieve on your way.

I like what you have to say but I stumble too much following your "path"...
old eyes I guess.
